Spine Surgery is often looked upon with a ‘sense of hopelessness’ when it comes to its treatment and rehabilitation with the main concern being “Will I ever be able to walk again after surgery”.
With the advancements in modern techniques of teaching, training and newer methods of treating spinal problems, spine surgery is not the same as it used to be about a decade ago. Over the past few years, spine surgery has transformed into a full sub-speciality with institutions providing spine fellowships specifically for this particular sub-specialization with emphasis on both the conservative and surgical management of treating spine disorders. Even though conservative management is a treatment option in these cases but, if the need for surgery arises, then the surgical treatment is often necessary in order to prevent further damage or permanent neurological deficit. Over the time the treatment of spine problems has become more advanced with better techniques, specific training, newer concepts and with emphasis on early active pain free mobilization, if feasible.
